Just when the kids got out of school for the summer, work commitments took Aaron to various locations for the first two weeks of June. First stop - San Diego, CA for a week of training where he received a special certification in NPS-2 (net promoter score in satisfaction management).
Although classes were held near Coronado Beach, he spent all of about 10 minutes feeling the sand between his toes. This trip was all business with an intense exam at the end of the week.
He stayed across the street from the hotel made famous by the movie "Somewhere in Time".
In years past, we've walked through this amazing place together.

From California, Aaron went to Portland, Oregon and Austin, Texas before making it home again. In the meantime, we managed well enough even with a broken lawn mower and a leaky faucet.
We have great neighbors and a father-in-law a mile away:).
Brinley and Aubrey had a fantastic time during their week (June 8-12) at EFY (Especially for Youth). We opted for the stay-at-home program (half the cost) offered near the USU campus and the girls were shuttled back and forth by G-pa P. It worked out for Aaron to pick them up Friday night at the Aztec Building on his way home from the SL airport. Brinley thought it was pretty cool that both sets of her grandparents met each other for the first time in the foyer of the Aztec Building (so many years ago...). The girls had a wonderful experience and made new friends along the way.
The Yellowstone Cup Soccer Tournament was held in our community June 11-13. Over 80 teams participated with games being played at 5 different locations. It was a big deal around town. Jantzen and Anna both played in the tournament. Jantzen's team won their division at this tournament last year and were a bit disappointed to not repeat the experience (we were in Nauvoo last time around & missed it).
The real surprise came after four incredible games. Anna's team pulled off a championship title!
These girls have improved so much this season - it was the perfect capstone to their efforts.
Never underestimate the power of hard work and not giving up!
It was truly a team effort and Anna played an exciting role making the winning shot during the championship game.
Their head coach, Logan S., is a soft-spoken BYU-I student that dedicated his time and talents to coach a bunch of 10-11 year old girls. Wow - talk about commitment. Unbeknownst to the parents, he didn't have a car so he talked a buddy into helping him out so he could have a ride to practices and games. After the championship game was over, Aaron and I saw Logan get into the back of a car and took notice of the driver because it was our friend, Lane, from the Boise area (a business associate we bonded with during our Bahamas cruise last May). We didn't put it all together until that very moment but remembered hearing Lane and his wife talk about their unofficially adopted son, Logan, who moved in with them as a 15-year old (from the Marshall Islands). It was a major aha moment for all of us. Lane and 5 of his other children were in town for the tournament and even stopped by our house to borrow Sunday clothes. It truly is a small world after all.

That is real commitment. Sounds like the team had a winning coach. Congrats, Anna! We loved hosting Brinley and Aubrey. Hope they had a great experience.
