Aaron's ultimate birthday gift was having Tanner return home just in time to celebrate with us. As September 2 fell on a Sunday this year, we enjoyed attending Tanner's report to the High Council that morning. It was an awesome opportunity and spiritual uplift for our family to hear a few missionaries report and feel their powerful testimonies. After church, we enjoyed having Great G-pa LaVerne join us for our final Sunday meal together before he returned to St. George for the winter. LaVerne headed south earlier than usual because a newly married grand-daughter/husband (Kevin's daughter McKenzie/Jake) moved into his house for fall semester.

Going for a hike is Aaron's birthday activity tradition which worked well since Labor Day followed and the kids were out of school. It was short but sweet since we had various projects going on back at home. After our hike/walk, we enjoyed lunch at a newer restaurant in town, Red Rabbit, which is owned by our good friends. Supporting the local businesses!

Coordinating our schedules is often a jenga puzzle. When Aaron registered for the 200+ mile bike race (LOTOJA) held on September 8, I already knew I'd be out of town with Tanner and Brinley. Aaron and his buddies worked out the logistics for their support crews and Mom and Dad's house was a hotel once again for the avid riders. Ironically, the older they get, the later their morning start time gets (which isn't a good thing). No matter, the boys trained hard and calculated what needed to happen for them to finish before the sun went down that night.

Regardless of the brutally windy conditions, Aaron was victorious in completing the ride with time to spare. There was no trio crossing at the line (as they miraculously did their first year) but everyone completed the ride without major incident. Throughout my travels that day (from SL to Missouri), I kept tabs on the riders via an app and knew it would be close for the final rider to cross in time. Thanks to Jane (relayer) for pulling Nephi the last 40+ miles, he survived the daunting distance.
