August 2019 in Review

Quinn and Aaron enjoyed a little father-son bonding at our property while the rest of us were at Trek.

It took several months to find the right office space for Aaron's newer business, VUE Advisors.  He is a trained and certified EOS Implementer and works with leadership teams for various businesses locally and nationally.  He can now hold virtual sessions with his remote clients (which has helped cut down on travel) and his local clients love the new space! Although Aaron hasn't had a commute in years, this new space is downtown IF so we've had to adjust to that.  The office space is in the historic Roger's Hotel building which is still in process of a complete renovation for mixed-use commercial/residential space.  We love the vibe of this new office and worked fast and furiously to get everything put together prior to Aaron's first session held on location.

Summer is usually packed with family members coming and going each week from various camps/activities.  We made sure to squeeze in a fun FHE activity before Tanner left on his 3-week European tour (Aug. 6 - Aug. 28).

Business trip to Waco, TX

The annual "Celebrate Youth" event is a tradition my kids have enjoyed for many years.  It marks the end of summer and we finish up bucket list items before school starts the following week.

We were thrilled to receive the wedding announcement of our good friends' daughter, Anika, and find she was marrying a local boy from our area.  Aaron and I didn't plan to stay at the reception from start to finish but Shane and Heidi didn't know anyone else anyway and enjoyed catching up with us.

The kids returned to school on August 21, 2019.  Can't say any of them were overly excited but it's always good to get into a new routine.  A few hours after they walked out the door (I was blissfully enjoying the peace and quiet), I received a phone call from our realtor letting me know people wanted to see our house that afternoon.  The adrenaline rush was real as I surveyed the condition of our home after taking a 'semi-relaxed summer approach' to its maintenance.  Yikes!  I busted my tail for the next 4 hours in a frenzied state of mind but got the job done just in time.

The new MHS football stadium is incredible in every way.  I can't say I completely agree with how funds were spent on the project but the end result is impressive and the place was packed for our first home game of the season (Aug. 30).  It was a bonus that we pulled off a last minute win - the crowds went wild with this first victory in the new stadium.

My niece, Sariah, is living with Bob and Janene her first semester of BYU-I and she made this delicious birthday cake for Janene's birthday on Aug. 31.

From Rome to Florence to Venice

Tanner was determined to explore parts of Europe with a student study abroad program this summer. After learning the humanities department trip was full, Tanner contacted Dr. Thomas and was able to secure a spot with the music department.  These trips will not be offered by BYU-I in the near future so it was fortunate the timing worked with Tanner's school schedule, budget and there was a spot for a business major to join!  The logistics for this trip were so well organized and the two tour guides did an excellent job of maximizing every opportunity for these students.  It's incredible what they were able to see and experience in three weeks!  Even Tanner was impressed as he was comparing 'notes' with his friend that was touring with the humanities department.  So grateful Tanner was able to create this opportunity and take full advantage of what was offered.
