Tanner on His Toes

 I surely remember the 'butterflies" sensation at the start of any and every race.

Here Tanner receives instruction from a meet official at the start of the 1600m.

 Overall, the 1600m was his favorite event to run but the 800m could be a close second - especially when he was able to run it fresh.  Tanner has some wheels.  I had to chuckle when at the end of a recent work-out the coach had the distance guys run a few 200m and they clipped across the line at 23, 24, 25 seconds.  The nearby sprinters' jaws dropped.  It's no surprise that a new school record was set in the 4 x 800m relay and Madison swept the 800m at the District Meet held this past Friday.

 Tanner continued to improve throughout the season and reached his goals by getting new PR's in both events and qualifying to run in the District Championships.

 The weather was a bit tumultuous throughout the season.  Some days were perfect and others were perilous!  One meet was cancelled midway due to high winds and severe cold/rain.  Nice.

 We're proud of Tanner's efforts on and off the track this season.  He has been a great asset to the team - motivating others to do their best and pushing himself along the way.

G-pa P loves a good track meet.  With the district meet being held between our two locations, he arranged to come and watch Tanner's final race.  Too bad a severe hailstorm followed by a torrential downpour put a damper on the meet.  Just as Tanner lined up for the 1600m, the hailstones plummeted from the skies.  Not ideal racing conditions but a PR for racing in the rain anyway:).  The rest of the meet was postponed until the weather cleared some but by then, we were drenched through and on our way to dinner at PPC and then to Costco.  Some days are just like that.

Tanner has been on his toes in more than one way this spring.  

Prom was held Saturday, May 2, 2015.

He asked fellow track teammate, Megan G. to accompany him.  

The original plan was for Tanner and Megan to double with Jacob and Annie.

An eclectic group ended up growing a bit but it appeared that everybody enjoyed themselves.

 After riding scooters, playing at the park and having dinner at Jacob's house, the boys took their dates home to get ready for the dance.  Tanner and Jacob cruised over to the church and joined us for the adult session of Stake Conference as all 17-18 year olds were invited to attend.

 The group met back at our place for pictures and dessert before heading to the dance.

It's always fun to meet new kids and see everybody all dressed up together.

 When I asked Tanner what he wanted for dessert, he said Megan loves ice cream.  So, we did an ice cream sundae bar with cookies (since Tanner doesn't even eat ice cream).  I thought that was very considerate of him...what a guy!

The theme for the dance was "A Night in Paris".  

These four rode together in the same car and really had a great time!

 It's been a wonderful spring season for Tanner.  Things at school are winding down and the pressure of AP US History has abated.  He will have accrued 26 hours of college credit by the end of this trimester.  He has worked hard and it's paying off now - big time.

Way to go Tanner!
