Texas Trip

Tanner and Brinley have been working hard to earn enough points for the opportunity to visit Texas.  Although it will take the entire summer to reach their point goal, we chose to let them fly back with Aunt Tiffany and Abigail after the recent family reunion.  To keep the motivation/incentive in place even after the adventure, we've calculated the weekly number of points necessary to avoid paying a 'penalty fee' at the end of the summer.

Here they are getting ready for G-pa P to drive them all to the Salt Lake airport on Friday afternoon (July 8).  After arriving in San Antonio, Uncle Shawn picked them up at the airport and they had dinner at Red Robin.  It was a low-key weekend because Abigail wasn't feeling the best but the kids enjoyed going to see"Mr. Poppins' Penguins" complete with popcorn, soda and a treat - new territory for sure!

By Sunday afternoon, Abigail was feeling better but Tiffany came down with the 'sickies' and Shawn left town for work on Monday morning.  Some how Tif managed to take the three kids to SeaWorld for a few hours on Monday and Tuesday where they watched the shows, rode a few rides and saw the sea creatures.  It was the highlight of the trip for Tanner and Brinley!  They enjoyed selecting small gifts to bring home for their siblings and parents.  They also painted ceramics and made cards at Tif's place to share with all of us.

Just before heading to the airport for their return flight, Tif took the kids outside to show them the intricacies of a Mentos/Diet Coke geyser.  She didn't plan on getting locked out of the house but that is exactly what happened.  It was definitely the first time Tanner has been called upon to break into a home by throwing a rock through the window!  Desperate times.  Desperate measures.

The return trip brought unique challenges as Brinley decided she wasn't feeling well at the airport.  Fortunately, they made it home safe and sound where Brinley was able to rest in her own bed.  Although the 'sickies' put a damper on some of the Texas plans, the kids learned a lot from the experience.  Ultimately, Tanner and Brinley gained a whole new appreciation for their own family and that's a wonderful thing!

It was fun to have them here, sorry we didn't feel better! I hope everyone in your family is finally free of the sickies.
